Earth Day comes but once a year, but we need to help preserve our planet and support science 365 days a year. This means we’ve got a ton of work to do and a lot of choices to make to effect change.
MMA Architect Inc. made the choice to do two concrete things this Earth Day Weekend to participate in making a difference in our community. We acted as corporate sponsors along with Pinchin Ltd. and Windsor Family Credit Union for the Canada South Science City Earth Day Dinner and Fundraiser. We also spent one-hour cleaning 75 feet of Lakeshore at Point Pelee National Park. We picked up two recycle bins full in one hour and you can’t imagine how much of it was plastic.
The creation of an improved and permanent science centre in Windsor speaks volumes about our Windsor-Essex community. It shows that we are committed to promoting an understanding of Science that supports innovation in technology, the physical and environmental sciences, and inspires our youth to greater intellectual and creative heights. It also establishes a positive educational community hub for Windsor’s west side. The centre also allows our youth the opportunity to experience scientific information in a setting other than the classroom and provides continuing education for adults.
MMA Architect Inc. is an integral part of the consultant team for the adaptive reuse of Forster Secondary School, now Canada South Science City, at 749 Flex Avenue in Sandwich Town, one of Windsor’s valued historic communities.
We also see the cleaning of waste on the shores of Lake Erie at Point Pelee National Park and at other sites throughout our region to be of prime importance. We are hoping that plenty of people visit the park on Sunday, April 22, 2018, and participate in the park’s official Earth Day Beach Clean-up from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
The observance of Earth Day provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to honour and respect science and the environment. This year’s Earth Day theme and focus is to help #EndPlasticPollution. How many plastic items do you consume every year and can you make a pledge to reduce the amount?
