Windsor Ontario Architect Encourages Supporting the WSO

MMA Architect Inc. and Windsor Ontario architect, Stuart Miller hope you enjoy our blog. We take a fresh approach to business blogging, highlighting a variety of topics.

The Danish author Hans Christian Andersen said, “when words fail music speaks,” a truer statement could not be made. Trust me as a business blogger occasionally words do fail. However, tonight the words come easily because the music spoke so clearly.

On Saturday, May 5, 2018, MMA architect Inc. attended the Windsor Symphony Orchestra’s (WSO) performance of Symphony No. 9 in E minor “From New World” by, Antonin Dvorak at the Capitol Theatre. It was a pleasure beyond measure to be in the house for this outstanding performance. The orchestra was lead by its incomparable director, Maestro Robert Franz. In addition to the concert’s primary piece, the orchestra also performed, Hungarian Dance No 5, by Johannes Brahms; Slavonic Dance No. 8 op. 46, by Antonin Dvorak; and vocal soloist Shahida Nurullah sang two traditional pieces, “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “Goin’ Home.” The Windsor Symphony Orchestra and its soloists outdid themselves, capturing every nuance of Dvorak’s symphony. I consider this WSO performance to be a sublime musical experience. I was so relaxed after attending this performance I felt as though I floated home, went gently off to bed and into a deep sleep. I wish to thank #mywso for the memorable, tranquil and enjoyable evening.

This concert occurs just prior to the symphony’s upcoming annual gala and below I share my musical background to explain just how important music has been and continues to be in my life. We hope that MMA Architect Inc. sharing this blog and our small contribution of concert and gala attendance assists the orchestra in enriching the lives of young people who are studying music in our community.

My childhood in Long Island, just outside of NewYork was spent immersed in music and the arts.  I studied the flute with a student of Julius Baker and covered a great deal of the classical flute repertoire. I have performed in several places throughout my life, but my favourite musical experience was performing at the Cathedral Saint John the Divine (the largest cathedral in North America, located in New York City) with just a harpist and myself. It was such a beautiful sound. The cathedral was so quiet and all you could hear were the notes of our music floating through the air.

I am proud to say that I have music in my blood. My Great-Great Grandfather Philip Herfort was a conductor, violinist, violist, and military band member in New York in the 1880s. He played violin and viola for the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera Orchestras, and performed with and conducted several other orchestras and smaller musical groups. He was part of a group of German musicians that helped to found the original Musicians Union in New York.

When I came to Canada in 1997 it was through my musical friend Tracey B. Atin, the local vocalist, actress and Founder and Artistic Director of Korda Artistic Productions, that I met my husband, Stuart.

I hope to always have music in my life, as it is such a great joy. Although I was born and bred in New York, I am also a proud Canadian Citizen.

As the business publicist for our architectural firm and a flutist since the age of 8, our business is happy to support the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. MMA Architect Inc.’s principal architect, Stuart Miller and I are also looking forward to attending the Orchestra’s Gala, “The Sky’s the Limit,” on Friday, June 15th at the new School of Creative Arts (formerly the Armouries).

As a Windsor-Essex business, we’d like to stress the importance of having such a dynamic local symphony orchestra. With the WSO and Music Director #ConductorRobertFranz leading the way Windsor, Ontario can lay claim to being a cultural magnet for Southwestern Ontario and the Metro Detroit areas. This is also good for business and tourism. It is our hope that residents and businesses in Essex County, Ontario continue to take great pride in their #WSO and actively support the orchestra by attending this year’s Windsor Symphony Gala.
